English translation:
Hurricane after hurricane, we repeat to ourselves the same thing. We insist that in the middle of the blackout, far away from the comfort of modern life, is how we'll be able to "become people again". And so we should be grateful because we can see the stars, because we've returned to play board games and talk with the neighbors and because the lack of virtual contact with the outer world has forced us into self reflection and human contact.
That idea, "becoming people", is presented to us as an alternative to the current problems of the present. "Let's look at the bright side of things", we say af if trying to convince ourselves. But after over 130 days without electricity and drinkable water after the hurricane Maria, and more than 140 for some since hurricane Irma, it's time that at the very least, we put aside the conformity and effort we are putting in trying to rationalize a situation that is not reasonable at all.
The colony isn't in Washington DC, nor in the faces of our political class, it's in the inside of our minds and our spirits battered and tired after more than 100 years of living in the infancy of our political being.
It would be more convenient if we didn't want to only return to being people and asked with more pressure the minimum of dignity that a country could have in the 21st century: water and power. People we already are, let's be citizens.

La referencia hace mucho es un lugar común. Pero huracán tras huracán, volvemos a repetirnos lo mismo. Insistimos en que en medio del apagón, lejos del confort de la vida moderna, es como único es posible que “volvamos a ser gente”. Entonces debemos estar agradecidos porque podemos ver las estrellas, porque hemos vuelto a jugar juegos de mesa y a dialogar con los vecinos y porque la falta de contacto virtual con el mundo exterior nos obliga a la reflexión y al contacto humano.
Esa idea, “ser gente”, se nos presenta como una alternativa ante las incomodidades del presente. “Vamos a mirar el lado positivo”, decimos como queriéndonos convencer.
Pero después de más de 130 días sin electricidad y agua potable tras el paso del huracán María, y más de 140 para algunos desde el huracán Irma, es tiempo de que cuanto menos, echemos a un lado la conformidad y el esfuerzo que hacemos en procurar racionalizar un estado de situación que no tiene nada de razonable.
La colonia no está en Washington D.C., ni en el rostro de nuestra clase política, está en el interior de nuestras mentes y nuestros espíritus golpeados y menguados por más de cien años de habitar la infancia de nuestro ser político.
Sería más conveniente que no quisiéramos volver únicamente a ser gente y reclamáramos con mayor presión el mínimo de dignidad que puede tener un país en el siglo XXI: agua y luz. Gente ya somos, seamos ciudadanos.
